(source: rtbf) the hannut region lies between the meuse and scheldt river basins. the town is crossed by a roman road that once connected bavai to cologne. hannut also hosted a renowned scientist, zénobe gramme, the inventor of the dynamo.

we will ride through villers-le-peuplier, crehen and thisnes before taking a short break in grand-hallet. this is where a rather unusual world record was set, one that even made it into the guinness book: a local resident, yvette dardenne, owns the world's largest collection of lithographed tin boxes. in her museum, she shares her passion and the fascinating stories behind each piece. visits available by appointment!

cycling through the burdinale valleys nature park

next, near avernas-le-bauduin, we’ll take the ravel trail along the former railway line 127. this route offers a peaceful ride through much of the burdinale and mehaigne valleys nature park and the hesbaye plateau.

we’ll exit the trail at bertrée and head back to hannut via the villages of cras-avernas, trognée, abolens, blehen, lens and poucet. hannut is home to many castles and castle farms said to rival those in the loire valley. the oldest, in trognée, dates back to the 16th century, while the one in moxhe is officially recognized as walloon heritage.
